Aftercare of a tattoo

Tattoos are a great way of self-expression. You can find the right design that can mean a lot to you. There will be dates of important events in life and names of loved ones that you want to get in permanent ink. One takes their own time and finalizes what one wants to get inked on their body.

You decide what is suitable for you and take the big step – you are now inked. But that does not mean your tattoo journey has ended. As part of the aftercare of a tattoo, there are a lot of factors that one needs to understand.

Tattoo aftercare

While tattoo aftercare is not a complicated process, it is still necessary to ensure the skin which is now inked heals well. This aftercare will act as a make or break for how well your tattoo and its vivid colours stand the test of time.

Before we talk about the post-inking process, ensure that you get a tattoo from a tattoo artist who is following the required health standards. This includes someone with a certification, who uses gloves and cleans the area where you are getting tattooed well and makes it sterilized. Check online or with people in your life for reviews of the tattoo parlour or tattoo artist to verify if they practice the necessary steps. At Ace Tattooz, you can rest assured that we will ink you in the safest way possible.

Post tattoo care

We have an aftercare sheet as well to remind you of some do’s and don’ts however we are adding some points for our readers as well first if all you need to remove the bandage within 1 hour, clean your tattoo with lukewarm water always use the foam of pears soap foam for cleaning your tattoo apart from that preferably use paper towels and wear loose clothes for at least next 2 weeks apart from that do not scrub your skin in tattoo area as dead cells will start coming off and new skin will replace them but dont worry the ink colors will remain and your tattoo won’t fade in this process.

As soon as you are inked, the aftercare begins. We provide you with a special after tattoo cream for special care and healing that can be wrapped in a plastic film or bandage to prevent bacteria from entering the wound. You will need to remove the bandage after a few hours and let it dry. Wash it with mild soapy water with clean hands. Remember to only lightly pat down with a soft towel on the tattoo to dry it out. Never do a wiping motion on it or else the ink might wipe out. You then add a layer of the cream again.

By day 7 you will have repeated the above process every day to keep the tattooed area clean and infection free. You will have to wear loose clothes around the inked area and make sure you are not getting the inked area sunburnt. In a week the inflammation and swelling will have gone down and the skin will now turn into scabs. This will mean it is recovering. If the inked skin is still inflamed and swollen a week in, it may be infected and will require medical attention. It is recommended that you avoid intense exercises for at least 2 weeks after getting inked, and also avoid swimming and all water related activities for at least 4 weeks to avoid getting an infection. If you must, start with light intensity workouts like stretching, yoga, walking, etc., at least 2-3 days after getting the tattoo. Also, keep in mind that you cannot donate blood till at least 6 months after getting a tattoo- you have to wait for that time period and let the tattoo heal to prevent any sort of infection from spreading during the blood transfusion process.

Now, after 14 days, the scabs should have hardened. Your skin will be very itchy but you need to prevent scratching it or picking on it with pointed things. The flakes should naturally fall off. Apply a fragrance-free moisturizer to help you ease the itchiness.

After a month, you will be on the way to a healthy and happy tattoo. While there may still be a few flakes falling off, the tattoo should be mostly healed. Cleanliness and moisturization are going to be a constant during this entire process. Varying individuals can have different healing speeds, so maintain this routine till you are fully in the clear.

And there you have it! You have now successfully been inked and maybe, this is just the beginning of a new tattoo journey in your life.

Why tattoos turn green and blue in color over time?

When it comes to tattoos, one of the biggest queries that people new to tattoos have is the longevity of the colours in tattoos over time. As a lifelong commitment, there is understandable concern over the appearance of a tattoo over a period of decades of someone’s life. What could be worse than tattoos changing by fading, blurring or a shift in the colours in it? Maybe the biggest question is why does the tattoo turn green or blue in colour over time. This is a common occurrence, especially among people who have had their tattoos over several years.

Now whether you plan on getting a tattoo that is a tiny one, simply texts and symbols or a large colourful design, before you commit to it the first time, you try to predict how the tattoo might look like say – 25 years later. No one wants their tattoo to appear like a blotchy design that is unrecognizable and causes regrets.

Certain factors like different body parts can affect how easily a tattoo on your body might fade. Finger tattoos for example fade quite easily and earlier. A rather fleshier part of your body therefore is less prone to fading quicker.

But let’s get to the main meat of this article and why you are here – why do tattoos turn green or blue in colour? Often you can find tattoos that were originally not blue or green in colour look like they were as time passes by. But what if you want the colours to stay that way till the end and the green/blue colour scheme simply does not do it for you?

Well, according to the experts, the change in hue is a concern for only tattoos that have black ink in them. As the years pass by, black ink gets absorbed into the body as well as fades with time. All of this leads to ink deposits losing density of the black colour on your skin. Every different black ink has various base colours on which it is produced. These include blue blacks, grey blacks, pure blacks and so on. Tattoos age with you and also have reactions to your surroundings. Exposure to the sun, the location of your residence can contribute further to this change in colour and the fading of the tattoo. Adding to this, the brand of ink used and the quality of the ink is also responsible. Melanin, a substance found in the skin’s outermost layer called the epidermis, is primarily responsible for skin pigmentation. The dermis, or layer of skin under the epidermis, is where the tattoo artist injects the ink during the tattooing procedure. The pigmentation of the melanin within the epidermis serves as a filter, covering the tattoo. As a result, a tattoo on someone with light skin may show colour more vividly. The colours in a person’s design might be the same, but they might appear more subdued over time if they have dark skin pigmentation.

Therefore, you need to take these factors into consideration when deciding if you want an all black tattoo, a semi black or black and white tattoo etc.

If you notice, this change in colour is also observed in the tattoos among the older folk. Older ink quality was quite poor, leading to early fading and discoloration. With technology improvements and better pigment qualities, the aging of these newer tattoos are also expected to go differently.

While no one possesses the ability to look into the future, the changing in colour based on the appearance of tattoos on old people should not deter you from taking your first step into getting inked. Adequate care and precautions will ensure that you can take better steps to help your tattoo flourish in all it’s glory! Is Septum piercing safe?

Body piercings have been in “trend” for centuries. As piercings evolved and the fashion around them evolved, the jewellery used for piercings became a mode of self-expression. Today, from artists and businesswomen like Rihanna to supermodels like Gigi Hadid, there is a major influence of the septum piercing in the contemporary age. Looking at the way the fashion world has truly embraced it, the septum piercing is here to stay.

Septum piercing

There is also an importance of septum piercing in many cultures, in Chinese culture it is believed that septum piercing is a powerful acupuncture point and doing septum piercing can actually open up the energy flow of the body. It is also believed in Hindu astrology that septum piercing can dissolve the ill effects of planet mercury hence septum piercing has been around the world since ages some times as a part of cultures and sometimes as a part of fashion.

We understand that you would like to get a septum piercing too but have valid concerns. What about the safety of indulging in an activity that requires you to make a small piercing in your body? What is the healing time? What about the aftercare? Such questions can always arise with these procedures.

what is septum Piercing?

Let us first understand what a septum piercing is. The septum, located in the bottommost part of your nose is the cartilage between your two nostrils. During the piercing process, the thin fleshy part that exists right in front of the septum is pierced with the help of a needle. After which, the desired piece of jewellery is pushed through the pierced hole. The jewellery can range from a ring or a horseshoe and in some cases a bar-shaped ornament. Another common name is a bull nose piercing for a hoop-shaped ornament.

The process can be uncomfortable and a little painful, but if done in the right way by experienced hands, you will be safe as the professional will ensure it hits the sweet spot efficiently. The piercing is never done through the cartilage- the best comparison for this is how one gets the side of the nose pierced.

Septum piercings heal in a few stages. The first few weeks are the most tender and painful parts of the healing process. Usually, to be considered fully healed, it is required to give your piercing 6 – 8 months. In order to change the jewelry, you need to give the piercing at least 6-8 weeks to heal well. However, you should leave it in as long as you can to avoid infections caused by a wound that is not healed.

Therefore, is septum piercing safe? If you take the help of an experienced professional, you

greatly lower your risks. Plus, if you do the properly advised aftercare like washing your hands

before touching it to avoid infections and using the right soft solutions to clean it, you should be

good to go. At Ace Tattooz, we have a very safe, efficient and trustworthy piercing service that has been in practice for a long time. Infact, Ace Tattooz happens to be Mumbai’s favourite and most trusted piercing studio lined with experienced piercing experts and professionals.
